A website has many components that make it up, but one of the most important ones is its design. A good web design helps your users navigate the site quickly and easily, which means they will spend more time on the site and be more likely to come back in the future or to tell others about it. Having a good design also makes your website more search engine-friendly, which will help you rank higher on Google and other search engines when potential customers are looking for sites like yours.
User experience is the measure of how satisfied and productive a person is in using one’s product, or in our case, website. User experience encompasses all aspects of computer use, from technical performance to aesthetics. There are many different factors that can affect your site’s usability and performance: color schemes, layout, content organization and other factors. The goal of any website is to provide the best possible user experience for its visitors by making it easy to use and navigate. A great UI will be clear and simple with little to no extraneous information. To make navigation easier, avoid nested menu structures; keep menu items close to their parent menus instead of grouped at the bottom of a page. Content should be scannable with headers (labels) to identify sections or topics at-a-glance. A readable font size that contrasts well against its background is also important when designing text on a page; avoid fonts smaller than 10 pt since they become difficult to read when viewing on a screen.
The internet is the go-to place for everything these days. We research, shop, find answers to questions and more. As consumers and users of the internet, we are faced with heaps of information every day. Websites can be difficult to navigate at times and it’s easy to get lost when what you’re looking for isn’t on the page. The design of a website matters because it should be easy to navigate and present concise information that is helpful in some way or another.
A well-designed website will have features like: clean lines, appropriate colors, menu navigation that is clear and concise as well as fonts that are easy to read. It should also include things like images or videos that break up text blocks or help convey information in an interesting way. Designing a website that is both appealing and functional will help not only your site but your business overall. Users want to feel confident in the quality of products they purchase and who they’re buying from so if they’re looking at your site and think this looks really nice, they’ll most likely buy from you. You want them to feel confident in their decision and know that they won’t regret their purchase later on. More importantly, you want your customers to enjoy using your product and visiting your site so even after they’ve made a purchase, continue making the experience enjoyable. Some ways designers do this is by providing feedback on customer orders or sending out newsletters about promotions to increase customer loyalty. For example, FreshBooks provides weekly updates of accounting deadlines and templates that make data entry easier for its customers; people love getting mail from businesses! So send out little postcards or email blasts to remind them why they bought from you in the first place. Or maybe offer discounts on certain items during specific times of year to keep the customers coming back for more. Web design is all about meeting user expectations. They expect a seamless and easy shopping experience so create one for them by having fun with your site, being interactive (think clickable tabs) and making sure that it’s accessible across all platforms. These small details may seem insignificant but when you don’t follow through, users will bounce right off your website before exploring anything else which means less conversions.
There’s been an endless stream of research and articles written about the importance of UX design and how it can impact everything from site traffic to conversion rates to customer satisfaction, but what happens if you don’t think about UX design when building your website or app? What if you just want your site to be functional, so you can get it up and running as quickly as possible? If that’s the case, you may be in for a surprise…
There are alternatives to designing with user experience in mind
While it is true that the majority of websites and apps today are designed with user experience in mind, there are still a good number of websites and apps out there that have not been designed with user experience in mind.
You will have to make compromises
If you are not designing your site with user experience in mind, you may have to make certain compromises. You might be forced to do things that would make the site easier to build, but not necessarily better for the user.
It’s worth it
UX (User Experience) is one of the most crucial aspects to keep in mind when building anything, from a website to an app.
